How To Create A Boho Chic Nursery – Day two of my family shopping week and we had so much fun! Today I have to share with you my daughter’s sweet vintage boho chic nursery.

This room has changed many times since we brought our daughter home from the hospital. It starts with bright and vibrant colors.

Honestly, I blame it on hormones because I have no idea who that person is wearing such bold colors and prints. If you look around my house, you’ll see color, but everything is softer, more pastel…and not in your face.

But anyway, after a few months into my daughter’s sweet and lively life, I realized something wasn’t right with this room. So I took it upon myself to slowly and deliberately transform the space into a vintage bohemian chic space!

A lot of that comes from preservation and consolidation. Lots of old mixed with new. There’s also lots of tassels, lightning bolts and tassels.

Most of the items you see in this space are from thrift stores, but I’m going to share with you some great pieces that bring the entire room together.

First of all, don’t ask me why there are so many pillows on the floor…they are comfy. That’s what really matters.

I also have two small pillows so if something falls on the floor it won’t break like these pillows will.

But speaking of these pillows, they’re amazing, aren’t they? They totally capture the vintage bohemian vibe of this room, these pretty pastel patterns and colors are to die for!

They are from Cloth + Cabin – one of my favorite little shops for clothing and home decor – and I may have to buy a few more while they’re in stock!

Speaking of Cloth + Cabin, did I mention that the beautiful Finley knitted ruffle throw is also from there?

I mean, if this doesn’t add the perfect girly vibe to the space, then I don’t know what will!

A great rug can completely transform a room, and this gorgeous Thorsby rug from Boutique Rugs is no exception!

It gives me that subtle, bold pop of color that I think I wanted in my first rendition of this room, but you know I know and love vintage goodness.

As for the crib, when we had our first daughter we actually stayed neutral and reused her crib this time too!

It’s subtle, timeless and neutral, so hopefully it will continue to stand the test of time!

**Always check with your pediatrician before using a bumper bar in your child’s crib as there may be a suffocation hazard. We used this when our daughter was old enough to roll over and over and was no longer a choking hazard.

I would love to find these curtains for you! They are a pastel vintage floral print and are very pretty, but they are a few years old and no longer available!

Designing a nursery is an exciting undertaking for any expectant parent, and bohemian and neutral nursery styles are popular for their free-spirited and inclusive atmosphere. Boho-style spaces are filled with natural materials, earthy colors and greenery, bringing a sense of grounding and happiness to all who step inside. This is an especially warm and inviting atmosphere for children to spend their first years of life!

Gender neutrals have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in recent years – gone are the days of strict adherence to traditional gender norms; instead, parents, regardless of gender, are choosing nurseries full of whimsy and personality. In this blog post, we’ll explore the magic of creating a bohemian gender-neutral nursery that is not only visually stunning, but also provides a safe and nurturing space for your child.

Boho is the abbreviation of Bohemian style, a design style inspired by the free and unconventional lifestyle of artists and travelers. Bohemian style is characterized by an aesthetic that is relaxed, eclectic and globally influenced. One of its main components is a mix of patterns, textures and colors, often reflecting a nomadic and traveling spirit. Generally speaking, bohemian style embraces individuality, encourages connection with nature, and brings a sense of comfort and ease into the home.

When setting out to create a neutral boho style nursery, you’ll want to include a few key components that will bring any bohemian style to life. Natural elements such as wooden furniture, rattan accents and plants play an important role in creating a bohemian atmosphere. Vintage and handcrafted items, as well as a preference for sustainably and ethically sourced materials, contribute to the unique and personal feel of bohemian style. Layering is another important aspect, with harmonious combinations of textiles such as woven rugs, fringed lace wall hangings and embroidered fabrics adding warmth and depth to the space.

Your color scheme will be another important aspect of your design. It’s both a matter of deciding on a boho color scheme and finding colors that work well for a neutral boho nursery. We usually see neutral boho nursery inspiration photos in neutral tones, and sure, that looks great on Instagram, but is it actually good for your baby?

According to science, the color of your nursery actually affects your baby. Contrasting colors best stimulate brain development and visual development, says Dr. Sears of the Institute for Health Research. For the first 3 months of life, babies can really only see shades of black, gray, and white, so solid colors are fine as long as they provide enough contrast to stimulate the brain. But when your baby is three to six months old, he will be able to see colors. Unless you plan to redecorate your nursery to keep your four-month-old busy, it’s best to consider this time frame in advance when designing a nursery for your child.

Vibrant colors will be key to its continued development – whether through the addition of wallpaper, textiles or wall art, it’s important to add other colors to your scheme. Bohemian style is actually perfect in this regard—it offers plenty of earthy, calming colors without being too stimulating to encourage sleep.

Neutral boho style nursery features soft and earthy tones. Choose soft tones like sage green, warm mustard, terracotta and soft gray to create a calming atmosphere. These colors provide a neutral background while leaving room for playful accents and colors, meaning you don’t have to worry about extra toys and textiles clashing with your scheme.

While all of these colors work well together, it’s best to choose 1-2 “main” colors for larger areas (wall paint or wallpaper and flooring, for example) and then add 2-3 other accent colors. There are varying degrees of influence on things like textiles and artwork. Try to stick with this color scheme by repeating the accent color throughout the room to create a cohesive and calming space.

As discussed, there are a few key components you’ll need to incorporate into your neutral bohemian nursery to truly create the look you want to achieve. We’ll look at each of these elements below.

Incorporate natural elements into the nursery to bring the outdoors indoors. Wooden furniture, rattan accents and woven textures add warmth and a bohemian feel. Consider using a crib with a wood frame, a rattan rocking chair, or even a woven wall hanging to bring natural elements into the space. A nice thing about this style of furniture is that the warmth of the wood also pairs perfectly with the bohemian color scheme!

The key piece in any self-respecting, neutral boho nursery should be lace. Whether it’s macrame ceiling hangings, wall decorations, lampshades or even blankets – at least one piece is a must! Macrame decor is synonymous with the boho movement, bringing equal parts class and magic to your space, and you can find many beautiful handmade items on Etsy to bring your vision to life!

My favorite trick to keep a space from looking bland is to add wallpaper. This quickly changes the look of the space and adds a great area of interest that can be used as a base for the rest of the bohemian neutral nursery design. Bobbi Beck has some great pieces that pay homage to the bohemian style without being too overpowering, and are a great way to introduce some much-needed color
