Ideas To Create A Spa Like Bathroom On A Budget

One of the first steps in designing any room is to determine the function and feel of the room. Houston designer Chandos Dodson Epley calls it “mood setting” rather than a theme or color story, because even the dullest hues can feel refreshed when paired with the right furniture and fixtures. Think about the key features you want when you go to the bathroom and how you can emulate them in your home. Once you have a list in mind, you can start working with the designer to figure out what’s possible in your space.

Not every toilet needs a complete gut overhaul to get back to normal. Sometimes, it simply comes down to replacing pipe fixtures that have lost their luster or replacing dated floor tiles. San Francisco designer Heather Hilliard often encourages clients to ditch bright colors and crazy patterns for powder because they feel “active instead of relaxing.” Instead, decorators recommend sticking to a tonal color palette of neutrals, blues, and greens. Subtle floral patterns can also add to the restorative power of nature without feeling overwhelming or overwhelming.

When it comes to upgrading hardware and appliances, don’t be afraid to incorporate smart home technology into your bathroom. “Details like medicine cabinets with eye cream refrigerators, temperature-controlled bathtubs, and fog-free shaving mirrors in the shower turn any bathroom into a spa experience,” explains Epley. “It’s no longer just a rain shower and a steam unit – you can have it all.”

Hilliard adds that the water-resistant speakers are another nice touch, as they can easily help set the mood with soothing sounds or music. Many brands even have options in neutral or muted shades to easily blend into your calm space.

Updating your bath linens might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but it should be. Additionally, a textured linen set can serve as an unexpected decorating tool, adding a contrasting yet cozy layer to the bathroom. Both Epley and Hilliard agree that Mattock makes some of the best linens and towels. For linens that can be personalized, our editors like Levantine Linens and Peacock Alley.
