And it makes a great seasonal gift. Amounts vary depending on your personal preferences and what is available to you. Here’s what I put in mine:

I prepare it simply and add larger handfuls of larger items (cloves, cinnamon sticks, nuts, orange slices) and smaller handfuls of smaller, colorful, highly fragrant items (rosehips, nails cloves, juniper berries, bay leaves, etc.).

I put everything in a large pot, spray the essential oils and delicately. Then it’s ready to be put into small bowls for display or packaged for gifting.

Simmering a pot of herbs, fruits, and spices is an instant way to create DIY fall scents that will make a home feel and smell ready for fall. I like to have a pot simmering when I know guests are arriving for a dinner, party, or even a quick visit.

The Ultimate Guide To Making Your Home Smell Amazing

Pot slow cookers are perfect for entertaining on vacation. Everyone likes to walk into a home that smells good; It really creates a nice atmosphere.

It’s a little different than most pot slow cookers you’ve probably seen. The combination of vanilla, bay leaves and rosemary may seem strange at first, but when you smell it you will see how perfect this combination is, especially with fresh oranges. It’s equally refreshing and relaxing.

Put everything in a saucepan and cover with water; Heat to medium-high. Let it cook for 15 to 20 minutes, or even a few hours so that the house smells good.

Add more water as needed, usually every 30 minutes or so (otherwise you’ll be floating around the house smelling like rotten food – YUCK).

Try these flavor combinations for your holiday slow cooker (measurements don’t need to be exact, so adjust to taste):

Again, this should probably go without saying, but as the conscientious housewife that I am, I say it anyway: don’t leave anything burning on the stove unattended, including during the holiday season. Another (safer?) alternative is to mix everything together in a miniature slow cooker to simmer, uncovered on the “low” setting. We like this one:
